10. COOLHAND
One of the first to produce paneled scans, a practice now employed by many of
today's top scanners. Quality greatly improved in the course of the collection. Coolhand
originated a distinct look that many have since followed.

9 . PIXELMASTER
A contemporary of ScanMaster, PixelMaster scans are in the mold of the
ScanMaster collection. With great quality and content and only 77 scans, PixelMaster was a
favorite of beginners looking to close their first collection.

8. RHABDO
One of the first to combine Playboy content with high quality fitness model
images (muscle girls), the Rhabdo collection enjoyed considerable popularity in the mid
1990's. This collection also pioneered the practice of filename inclusion on the scan as
part of the presentation style. This technique was subsequently used by many scanners.

7. TF-SCAN
This massive collection (800+) is one of the finest collections that employ the
minimalist philosophy of scan presentation (no borders, no model name, no file name - just
a small logo). The collection was one of the few that jumped around from current content
to classic 50s, 60s and 70s Playboy content (with success). TF-Scans are under represented
on the Web. These excellent scans are rarely seen outside of USENET.

6. SCANBYTE
The inventor of the concept of structured presentation. ScanByte was the first
to present scans in a consistent fashion (faux marble border with model name in cursive
typeface at the top - always). Although some scans are so poor that they should never have
been released, most are excellent. This collection was also one of the first to move away
from the "768" convention to produce monster screen-buster scans (sized over
1000 pixels high).

5. RIPTORN
Riptorn scans signaled the end of an era, dominated by ScanMaster and it's
contemporaries, and the beginning of what collectors recognize as present-day netscanners.
Although Riptorn scans are downright conventional in terms of presentation and content.
What distinguished RipTorn scans was the quality of the touch work. Many touching
techniques employed by today's scanners were pioneered by RipTorn (who used them
judiciously and to great effect).

4. TREX/SELECTSCAN
TREX is one of the most prolific netscanners being responsible for no less than
5 collections all under the "TREX" or "SELECTSCAN" monikers. These
collections are among the best of the ten listed here. The collections offer world class
scans that combine excellent content and presentation with crystal clarity. There are a
great number of these scans and completion can be a challenge since the older TREX
collections do not see much Internet time these days.

3. RONSCAN
From the ScanMaster era (mid 1990s), the RonScan collection represents a
remarkable effort in terms of technical excellence. Produced in a time when quality was
not a given, these scans are some of the best of their day. RonScan also had some of the
most varied content of it's day. Many models that were not covered in other collections
were represented in this collection. At 217 scans Ronscan is probably the finest small
collection ever produced.

2. SKUNKMASTER
Until collections such as Gorek, Harli, Scooter, Enigmatist, Wanderer and others
appeared, SkunkMaster was the highest quality collection available. SkunkMaster scans
posses a light intensity and clarity that few can match. Many of these scans are so well
done that they appear almost 3 dimensional (remember viewmasters of the 60s ? ). Even the
standard content and minimalist presentation style can't obscure the fact that SkunkMaster
is one of the highest quality collections ever produced.

1. SCANMASTER
The inventor of netscanners as we know them. The collection that started the
practice we know call "scan collecting". The collection that inspired the
creation of collection manager software. The most influential, well known, widely held and
persistent scan collection of all time. The quintessential scan collection. Possibly the
first to follow the "768" convention for scan production. You want just one
collection - This is it. Completion of this collection is a virtual rite of passage for
collectors - once you complete this one you can call yourself a "Scan
Collector".
